Ruslana is a well-known singer, who won the * last year with her composition” Wild Dances”, which is a mixer of modern music and national one from a region of Westen Ukraine. She voted for Ushchenko like other singer and bands from Central and Western Ukraine.
In days of the Orange Revolution she also supported Ushchenko, however she had been quite neutral before. In order to support her people, Ruslana even canceled her European tour and began to sing at Nezavisimosti square. Her song “Wild Dances” became one of the most famous songs of The Orange Revolution. Ruslana even declared that she was going to starve in order to influence on the government, but nobody knows if she started to starve, because she hasn't mentioned any details of her starving since then. Although our people could see her at tv-programs where the political situation was discussed and where she proposed the ways of its solution.
One day Ruslana said in interview for one of our tv-chanels that she wanted to show the results and explain the Orange Revolution to foreign people especially from Europe. Then Ruslana added that a lot of people in Europe wanted to see Ukraine as an independent state but as a part of Russia. Also she announced that she would go to Europe and Russia after the victory of Orange Revolution and would show that our revolution is a big step forward and disprove the idea that this revolution is a step back and that it had been organized by Bush and his administration.
Ruslana, as other cultural figures of our country, influenced the course of the Orange Revolution.
